Annuals, Perennials and Containers
Superbloom - from the Greenlight Company is the best fertilizer for blooming annuals.  It contains twice the phosphorus, the blooming part of fertilizer, as MiracleGro.  It also contains extra iron to keep leaves a healthy deep green.  Mix one tablespoon per gallon of water, and apply every 2 weeks.  Great for all summer annuals as well as fall pansies.

Trees and Shrubs
Root Stimulator – Start your new tree and shrubs off right.  Root Stimulator from Greenlight contains a plant hormone that triggers increased root production, as well has plenty of root promoting phosphorus.  Mix 3 ½ tablespoons of Root Stimulator with water and apply when you plant and then again every two weeks for the first 2 months.

Holly-tone, Plant-tone, and Tree-tone – from Espoma.  The ‘tones are all full of natural, organic ingredients.  They are high in micronutrients and naturally slow release.  Holly-tone is best for acid loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, dogwoods, and all evergreen plants.  Spread this under the branches of the plant and cover with mulch.  Feed once in the spring and again in late summer.  Feed azaleas and rhododendrons after they bloom.  Tree-tone is for all shade and flowering trees except dogwood.  Plant-tone is a general purpose fertilizer.

Fertilome Azalea Food plus Insecticide – Azaleas in our area can be plagued by a pest called lace bugs.  Lace bugs cause the leaves to look like something sucked the green color out of them.  The problem is, by the time you see the damage in late summer, the bugs are long gone.  This fertilizer contains all the trace elements azaleas need, and a long lasting insecticide to kill the lace bugs before they damage your plants.  Apply in late spring, after the azaleas have finished blooming.

What is fertilizer?
Fertilizers are nutrients that plants need to grow. Some fertilizer is found in the ground, but most plants perform better if given extra fertilizer, especially those plants grown in containers.
All fertilizers contain differing amounts of 3 basic ingredients, depending on what they are meant to feed. These are the 3 numbers on every container of fertilizer.

    1.	Nitrogen – For green, leafy growth. Lawn fertilizer is usually high in nitrogen.
    2.	Phosphorous – For flowers and roots. Superbloom for annuals flowers, and Root
Stimulator for newly planted shrubs are high in phosporous.
    3.	Potassium – For overall vigor. Winterizers for lawns are high in potassium to
        strengthen grass for cold weather.

Fertilizers will also contain different trace elements such as iron, magnesium, or sulfur. Acid loving plants like azaleas need more trace elements than other plants.
