Angelonia Also called Summer Snapdragon, these heat loving plants have upright spikes loaded with small orchid like flowers. Colors are white, pink, lavender, and purple. Grows 24 inches tall and attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Easy. Full sun. Bacopa This trailing plant has delicate white or lavender flowers and loves the heat. Perfect for trailing out of planters of geraniums or petunias. Grows only 3 inches tall and trails up to 2 feet long. Sturdy and easy to grow. Full to part sun. Begonia Bronze Leaf Bronze leaved begonias are some of the easiest and most reliable annuals for full sun. Flowers can be red, pink or white and the plants grow 8 inches tall and 12 inches wide. With their dark waxy leaves and compact habit, bronze begonias work well in front of red salvia or sun loving coleus. Full sun to part shade. Blue Daze This fast growing annual groundcover has sky blue flowers and silvery green foliage. It needs to be watered well when first planted, but once established blue daze is very heat and drought tolerant. Grows 6 inches tall and 2 feet wide. Flowers close in the evening. Full to part sun. Celosia This sun loving plant has upright feathery flowers in bright colors such as red, pink, yellow and orange. Leaves can be a cool green or deep purple. Plant in well drained soil and water only when dry. Dwarf varieties stay 10 to 12 inches tall, while taller types such as Pink Flamingo can reach 2 ½ feet. Moderately easy. Full sun only. Celosia Castle Scarlett Dahlia Dahlia flowers can be as small as 1 ½ inches or as large as a foot across depending on variety. They make long lasting cut flowers and come in every color except blue with many varieties having multicolored flowers. Leaves can be green or bronze. Dahlias need extra fertilizers to flower well and must have the spent blossoms removed. Full sun to part sun. Flowers can be red, pink, white, purple or any combination of colors and often have a soft, spicy fragrance. Plants grow 1 foot tall if planted in the spring, taller if planted the previous fall. Plant in well drained soil in full to part sun. Give plants a light shear after the first flowers fade to encourage re-blooms. Dusty Miller The beautiful, wooly, silver white leaves of dusty miller add a wonderful contrast to dark green plantings. Use it as a neat edging or in clumps to enrich the colors of petunias, geraniums, salvia or begonias. Dusty Miller will take a heavy freeze and can also be planted with pansies in the fall or early spring. Full sun to part shade.
