Thyme English Garden Thyme Variegated Lemon Lemon Balm This hardy perennial is a member of the mint family and can spread aggressively. Its lemon scented leaves make a good tea, and are useful anytime a mild lemon flavor is wanted. Easy to grow. Marjoram Marjoram has a flavor similar to oregano, just a bit sweeter and more mild. The flavor improves with drying. It is used to flavor stuffing and sausage. This highly aromatic herb is a hardy perennial. Oregano This hardy perennial is used to flavor Italian, Greek, and Mexican dishes, especially pizza. Grows best in neutral pH soils with plenty of calcium. Parsley French parsley is curled while Italian parsley has a flat leaf. Both are used to flavor many dishes from meats to vegetables. It is a rich source of vitamins A, B, C, calcium, iron, and phosphorus. Parsley is a hardy biennial and will go to seed the second year after planting. Pineapple Sage Tender perennial used to flavor fruit dishes, teas, and jellies. Beautiful spikes of red flowers appear in late summer and fall and are highly attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Rosemary Perennial evergreen shrub that prefers a limey soil. It is highly aromatic. Used to flavor meat dishes, soups, and stews. Small branches can be stripped of leaves and used as skewers. Attractive blue flowers in the spring. Both upright and trailing forms are available. The varieties Tuscan Blue and Arp are winter hardy for our area.
